Corbett, Sue Biggins, Adèle L. Marston, Charles L. Asbury Summary Production of healthy gametes requires a reductional meiosis I division in which replicated sister chromatids co-migrate, rather than separating as in mitosis or meiosis II. We isolated kinetochore particles from yeast and use laser microscopy techniques to show directly that kinetochore fusion underlies the reductional behaviour of chromosomes during meiosis I.
