The Peter Wilson Building is named after Peter Wilson, a renowned biologist who made significant contributions to the field of evolutionary biology. Within the Peter Wilson Building, you'll find our postgraduate taught teaching lab.

Students in the Peter Wilson laboratory are supervised by experienced researchers who are experts in their field.

Opened in 2022, the Nucleus Building acts as a shared learning, teaching and social hub.There are bookable study spaces on the first, second and third floors of the Nucleus Building which are for the exclusive use of students.There is also the Nucleus Café, Nucleus Shop and Wrap Bar which are a great place to refuel after classes or to aid in catching up with friends.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RGBE) is a leading botanic garden and a global centre for biodiversity science, horticulture and education

Students on our MSc Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants will spend the majority of their time at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, benefitting from its many facilities including laboratories, an extensive herbarium and one of the worlds most comprehensive botanical libraries.

Dedicated Biological Sciences postgraduate study rooms

All of our postgraduate taught students have access to two School of Biological Sciences study rooms at the King’s Buildings campus:

Room 1.1 in the Mary Brück Building
G.36 in the Peter Wilson Building

Taught postgraduate students studying on one of our four Quantitative Genetics Masters programmes have their own dedicated common room in the Ashworth Building which is Room 120.

In addition to the study space, the Mary Brück Building is also home to our Student Support Team. The Student Support Team provide pastoral support to all of our taught students.

Noreen and Kenneth Murray library

Situated in the middle of the King’s Buildings campus, this is where lots of the Science and Engineering textbooks are kept. Biology textbooks are mostly on floor 1 and there are lots of copies of key textbooks you might need to borrow. There are desks and computers for studying as well as printers and the cafe on the ground floor.

This building is named after Noreen and Kenneth Murray, who were pioneers in genetic engineering leading to the hepatitis B vaccine.
