There are lots of ways in which we engage with people of all ages locally and nationally to discuss our science, interact with our local community, support primary and secondary biology and science education, and raise aspirations in young people. Our methods include interactive workshops, schools visits, involvement in science and cultural festivals, public events, community activities, digital engagement, exhibits, talks and teacher CPD. Web-based information includes films and podcasts, along with downloadable educational resources. Much of our work with schools and communities targets low-SIMD (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) areas, and direct involvement of our researchers and students from across the School is key to our strategy. As well as the projects described on these pages, many of our enthusiastic and creative staff and students organise smaller, and often surprisingly unconventional, activities discussing their science, such as stand-up comedy, book clubs, one-off presentations and talks, art exhibitions and more.If you are interested in our research, in finding out about an area of biology that interests you, or if you would like to discuss the possibility of us working with your group or organisation, please get in touch Image Alongside Centres and research labs in the School who have their own public engagement programmes and projects, together with financial support from the School, overall coordination of the School's current Public Engagement programme and core projects is generously supported by funding from the Darwin Trust of Edinburgh.Darwin Trust of EdinburghKey contactsNameEmailDr Janet Paterson, Public Engagement Managerjanet.paterson@ed.ac.ukMaria Fanourgiaki, Public Engagement Officermaria.fanourgiaki@ed.ac.uk Schools Projects and events for Schools.
