Buabarn Poonperm

Buabarn has a PhD in structural biochemistry and is now an investigator at the first synchrotron facility in Thailand.

Born in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, in 1969, I received a BSc in Chemistry from Khon Kaen University in 1992, and an MSc in Applied Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry from Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, in 1998.

In 2005, I received a PhD in Structural Biochemistry with Malcolm Walkinshaw and Linda Fothergill-Gilmore at the University of Edinburgh. The project examined ligand binding by X-ray crystallography on a glycolytic pathway drug target from Leishmania mexicana.

I am currently an investigator of the Beamline Division, National Synchrotron Research Center (NSRC) in Thailand which is the first synchrotron facility to be developed in my country.

My research aims to understanding the structural and biochemical basis of anti-malarial drug targets in the glycolytic pathway of Plasmodium.
