Taught Postgraduate Taster Sessions

Our Taught Postgraduate Taster Sessions are online mini-lectures on topics of global relevance and will provide you with an insight into the types of content you could experience through studying your postgraduate degree with us.

During each webinar, you'll hear from one of our academics, who will talk you through pre-prepared PowerPoint slides. Presentations will last about 25 minutes in length and you'll then be able to ask any questions you have about the topic presented or studying a postgraduate degree with us.

Don't miss this opportunity to gain insight into our learning and teaching!

Taught Postgraduate Taster: Boosting Bugs with Biochar for Bioremediation

Bioremediation is the use of microbes to clean up contaminated soil and groundwater. It's generally regarded as a highly efficient, cost effective and environmentally conscious solution.

Soils contain an enormous diversity of micro-organisms that perform essential functions. Some soil microbes can even respond to and degrade oil contamination. In this session, Andrew Free, will talk through some recent research to aid in answering the question - can we use these oil degrading microbes to boost bioremediation at contaminated sites?

Taught Postgraduate Taster: Using genomics to explore evolution in a changing world

Life is a balance between survival, reproduction, and resilience to environmental change. This is often shaped by genetic variation, which determines a population’s capacity to evolve.

In this session, we explore how genomics, combined with decades of ecological data from wild mammals and birds, helps us track and predict genetic changes over time. We will investigate how trade-offs between natural and sexual selection shape these outcomes, offering insight into the processes safeguarding species diversity.

Join us to discover how these findings deepen our understanding of evolution and natural resilience.
