Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) seeks to nurture the biotechnological skills and entrepreneurial ambition of its students and faculty as they are challenged to positively impact local communities, national prosperity and address global challenges.

Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) offers Masters and Doctoral programmes in:

  • Animal biotechnology
  • Environmental biotechnology
  • Industrial biotechnology
  • Medical biotechnology
  • Plant biotechnology

The curricula of the five MSc programmes was designed by the University of Edinburgh to exceed those currently delivered in Edinburgh and elsewhere in India.

The learning ecosystem at GBU is inspired by modern pedagogical approaches, international best practices, Indian philosophy and culture and high-quality education at the University of Edinburgh.

Each curriculum is designed around five core pedagogical pillars: learning through real challenges, active learning, teamwork, failing, and reflection.

The curriculum and new ways of learning at GBU will empower students to deliver solutions in biotech industry.

Curriculum

GBU’s research and challenge-led approach curricula enables applied learning across four semesters in two years.

  • Semester 1 - Starts with core subjects, concepts, and lab skills.
  • Semester 2 - Provides a student advanced subject knowledge and key skills in one of the 5 Programmes
  • Semester 3 - Students can take advanced elective courses taught by GBU academics, visiting Edinburgh academics and industry experts. Students begin their 9 month dissertation project
  • Semester 4 - Students continue their 9 month dissertation project.The research placements range across a variety of institutions, including GBU, the University of Edinburgh, industry or other relevant institutions.
