Andrew did a PhD in molecular biology and is now a head of informatics in Dublin. Following a degree in biochemistry and a Masters in computing, I did my PhD as a CASE student with ICL Ltd in molecular biology, implementing sequence searching and analysis algorithms on a parallel processor. After computational postdocs in Bristol and Edinburgh, I joined Glaxo as a Principal Scientist in 1990, rising to be Head of Advanced Technology and Informatics. I moved to Oxford Glycosciences in 1999, before taking up my present post in 2004 as Head of Informatics in the Centre for Human Proteomics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. Besides computational things, I enjoy music, cooking, science and politics. This article was published on 2024-06-17
