My favourite thing about working at The University of Edinburgh is the feeling of community on campus. My favourite place to visit in Edinburgh is Portobello beach where you will find me in the water all year round! If I am venturing further out, a great place I love to visit is Loch Lubnaig near Callander where the scenery is beautiful and you can get an amazing cheese toastie. I enjoy anything outdoors based so please tell me all about your outdoor adventures. Niamh Gallagher-Brown I’m Niamh Gallagher-Brown, I’m a Student Adviser, and I’ve been at the University since 2023. The best thing for me about working here is getting to see students progress through their degrees and grow as people and scholars. My favourite place to visit in Scotland is the Crannog Centre near Perth – it’s a really fascinating living history museum about life in the iron age, with amazing surroundings. I love knitting, crocheting, reading sci-fi and fantasy and playing board games, so please do tell me what you’re crafting or reading. Jena Chalmers Hi, I’m Jena! I’ve been a Student Advisor in the School of Biological Sciences since April 2025. One of the best parts of my role is getting to know students from all over the world and hearing about the fascinating research you're involved in. Outside of work, I love exploring Edinburgh, especially the peaceful trails around Harlaw and Threipmuir Reservoirs. If you're into scenic walks by the water, I definitely recommend a visit! I’m also passionate about music and Muay Thai, so feel free to stop by for a chat about anything from playlists to pad work. Student Support Tutor Abby Cabrelli I am the Student Support Tutor in the School of Biological Sciences where I provide study skills support and teach on a range of first and second-year courses. My academic background is in ecology, and I completed my PhD in Australia where I explored the impacts of climate change on reptiles. I love working with students from different educational and cultural backgrounds and helping them make the most of their time at university. Edinburgh is home to many wonderful places, but one of my favourites is the National Museum of Scotland. There is always something new to see.
