For students on our Drug Discovery and Translational Biology programme. Programme Director's Welcome The MSc. in Drug Discovery and Translational Biology will lead you through the process of drug discovery and design; from the laboratory bench to marketing the new compound. The major focus of the newly updated programme is understanding the fundamentals of molecular recognition involved in the lead discovery and the assessment process of therapeutic development. In this context, core programme courses include molecular modelling, assay design, characterising the interaction of drug molecules with their targets along with the commercial aspects of the drug discovery process. In the School of Biological Sciences, there is a significant portfolio of postgraduate programmes providing you with a choice of courses and opportunities beyond the core drug discovery theme (these include Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology and Bioinformatics). This allows you to tailor your degree to your personal interests and future plans. At the end of the programme, we aim to have graduates of a high calibre, capable of pursuing a professional career in industry or government agencies or continuing their research at PhD level. You will develop focussed research skills, as well as an understanding of the environmental, health and social problems that accompany work in the field of drug discovery and working with proteins and their ligands. We look forward to meeting you in September. - Dr Martin Wear Programme Director, MSc Drug Discovery and Translational Biology Reading List Some suggested reading for students on the Drug Discovery and Translational Biology programme.
