Learning adjustments

Support and adjustments are available if you have a disability, learning difference or health condition that affects your studies.

Schedule of Adjustments

A Schedule of Adjustments is implemented by the Disability and Learning Support Service after a meeting with them has taken place.

It is a list of modifications to support your teaching and learning.

Examples could include:

  • Adjustments to coursework and specific examination arrangements
  • Extra time on short loan or reserve books
  • Giving you information about available technology and personal assistance (such as note-takers, proof-readers or dyslexia tutors)
  • Tasks to be broken down into smaller chunks if requested

Please contact the Disability and Learning Support Service to arrange a meeting if you have a disability, learning difficulty or health condition that affects your studies. Please note, this can also include short term difficulties including, for example, a broken arm that makes it difficult for you to write.

How the School can support you

Once arranged with the Disability and Learning Support Service, the Schedule of Adjustment will then be provided to the Biology Teaching Organisation (BTO) to implement on your courses.

You only need to notify us about this if something has not yet been implemented which you need urgently. In these instances, please contact the BTO Student Support Team.

Learning Adjustment Extension Requests

Additional support is available to students with extra time learning adjustments. These adjustments allow extensions to be accepted and applied to assessments immediately after submission. Further guidance is available on the Extensions and Special Circumstances website.

Help in the Teaching Laboratories

We want all our students to be able to participate as fully as possible in our laboratory classes, and we will help you if you require additional support. Please let the BTO Student Support Team know as soon as possible if you may need additional support, even if temporarily through an accident.

You should contact the Disability and Learning Support Service if you have a condition or issue that requires longer-term support.

If you wish to talk to a member of staff about the course requirements and your particular needs, please contact the BTO Student Support Team.
