MSc Biotechnology

For students on our Biotechnology programme.

Programme Director's Welcome

The MSc in Biotechnology provides a rich learning experience, drawing on the strengths of our internationally respected academics, an ideal opportunity to enhance your research and development skills using biological principles and systems to create new products, services and industries. We will also investigate both the scientific and the economic basis for current biotechnologies and consider areas where future demand is likely to come from.

Studying the MSc in Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh will equip you with skills and knowledge that are very attractive to prospective employers in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, where many of our graduates have found employment. Equally, you will have a solid foundation for further research at PhD level: around one third of our recent graduates have continued with research training after MSc graduation.

We look forward to meeting you in September.

Firbush field trip

As a student on the MSc in Biotechnology, you may have the chance to take part in a field trip to the University’s residential outdoor activity centre, Firbush.

The trip incorporates a little serious study but plenty of time for relaxation and enjoyment too.  It is a great way to see some of the beautiful Scottish countryside and you can try out some outdoor activities such as cycling, hill walking or water sports.
