Password protect individual files

To ensure that confidential files remain confidential, password protect them with a strong, long password.

This can be achieved by the in-built functionality within the software you are using: -

Office 2010 (Windows)

  • Word 2010 - Save as type: Word Document (*.docx), Save As/Tools/General Options/Password to Open
  • Excel 2010 - Save as type: Excel Workbook, (*.xlsx), Save As/Tools/General Options/Password to Open

Office 2011 (Mac OS X)

  • Word 2011 - Format: Word Document (*.docx), Options..., Show All, Security, Set Password to open
  • Excel 2011 - Format: Excel Document (*.xlsx), Options..., Set Password to open

OpenOffice

  • Save As type ODF(*.odt, *.ods) /Save with Password

PDF

  • PDF Creator - Options, Formats: PDF, Security, Tick Password required to open document and set password
