How awards are determined

Undergraduate degree classification is determined using the ratio 1:2 for marks received in Year 3 and Year 4.

Exceptions to this are for those who took a full year abroad as part of an international exchange scheme, or for those studying for a BMedSci  or VetSci Hons. In these cases, classification is normally calculated using only the marks gained in Year 4.

If students have taken a part-year abroad, their results are calculated appropriately using the results gained while based in Edinburgh.
