Find out about Thematic meetings in the 2024/25 academic year. IntroductionThemesEastBio student projects are designed around five key research themes:Understanding the rules of lifeBioscience for sustainable agriculture and food – Crops and soilBioscience for sustainable agriculture and food – Terrestrial and aquatic animals (this encompasses Livestock, Production Biology, and Health and aquaculture)Bioscience for renewable resources and clean growthBioscience for an integrated understanding of healthMeetingsMeetings among the members of a thematic group are a mandatory element of the training programme, which primarily aims at cohort-building throughout the first year. These meetings are student-led and should take place at different partner institutions 4 times over the course of the year, ideally in alternate months – December, February, April, June. The final thematic meeting may be planned to take place during the EastBio symposium (3-4th June), to reduce travel for attendees. This may be a joint meeting across groups if there is shared interest in a topic such as industry-collaboration, science communication or big data in life sciences.Second-year students are expected to attend at least one of these sessions.Clean GrowthSessionScheduleDateLocationContactSession 110:30 - 16:00EastBio Clean Growth Thematic Meeting Jan 2025.docx (15.07 KB)28-Jan-25Edinburgh Botanic gardenOlivia Gray - s2465582@ed.ac.ukSession 2: Clean Growth and Conservation: A Creative Exploration10:00-17:00EastBio Clean Growth Thematic Meeting March 2025.docx (13.48 KB)3-Mar-25Edinburgh ZooZachary Bloxham - Z.Bloxham@sms.ed.ac.ukSession 3 Session 4 Crops and SoilSessionScheduleDateLocationContactSession 110:15-16:305-Dec-24DundeePedro Nadais - 2648347@dundee.ac.ukSession 2: Sustainable Pest and Soil Management: Balancing Conservation and AgricultureEastBio Crops and Soil Thematic Meeting March 2025.docx (17.05 KB)20-Mar-25 EdinburghJoshua Osagiede - Joshua.Osagiede@sruc.ac.uk Session 3 Session 4 Integrated Understanding of HealthSessionScheduleDateLocationContactSession 1: Science Communication & AIEastBio Health Thematic Meeting Jan 2025.docx (22.41 KB)23-Jan-25Suttie Centre, University of AberdeenSign up hereSession 2: Research techniques culture to clinic10:45-16:00EastBio Health Thematic Meeting March 202520-Mar-25IRR South, Edinburgh BioquarterSign up hereSession 3 Session 4 Livestock and AquacultureSessionScheduleDateLocationContactSession 1: Human Behaviour Change10:30-16:30EastBio L&A Thematic Dec 2024.pdf (43.39 KB)6-Dec-24G.21 Murchison House, University of EdinburghLaina Langridge - l.langridge.24@abdn.ac.ukSession 2: Animal Welfare and Ethics10:30-16:30EastBio L&A Thematic Feb 2025.pdf (600.31 KB)5-Feb-25OnlineFelicity Wilson - f.j.wilson@stir.ac.ukSession 3: Antimicrobial Resistance: Current State, Drivers, and Strategies for MitigationEastBio L and A Thematic Meeting March 2025.docx (55.12 KB)EastBio L and A Thematic Meeting March 2025 Flyer.pdf (646.59 KB)27-Mar-25Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre (RaVIC), SRUC, InvernessAva Drake - ava.drake@stir.ac.ukSession 4 Understanding the Rules of LifeSessionScheduleDateLocationContactSession 1: Where does structural biology allow us to take the field in the next 5 years?10:30-15:3021-Feb-251S03 Dalhousie Building, University of DundeeJohn Girgis - john.girgis@ed.ac.ukSession 2: Decoding the Rules of Life: Computational methods11:00-16:0025-Apr-25William Guild Building, AberdeenRegister hereSession 310:00-15:3019-May-25St AndrewsMelissa Ramsay - mr362@st-andrews.ac.ukSession 4 This article was published on 2024-10-07
