Please see the details below.MiAlgae applies biotechnology to reduce over-reliance on our oceans. Our circular economy approach uses co-products from the Whisky industry to ferment microalgae as a source of omega-3, displacing unsustainably harvested fishmeal and fish oil. We’re developing a project that aims to apply Bayesian optimisation and related probabilistic modelling to help understand and optimise temporal, interacting fermentation parameters including dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature to maximise the productivity of our industrial process. We can offer a 3 to 6-month placement that would suit a PhD student with a background that blends biological understanding with experience developing and/or applying advanced optimisation methodologies. The placement would involve working closely with our R&D team using our laboratory-scale bioreactors and has the potential to involve work using data from our 30,000 L industrial bioreactors. Funding options are available to support such a placement.Interested? Send your CV and a cover letter detailing your interest to Dr Jamie Gilman (jamie.gilman@mialgae.com) by May 12th at 5 PM.
