Teaching accreditation

Advance HE is a member-led charity that works to improve Higher Educations and offers internationally recognised, portable teaching qualifications that the School of Biological Sciences would like more staff to acquire.

There are four categories suitable for different roles associated with student learning:

• Associate Fellow (AF)
• Fellow (F)
• Senior Fellow (SF)
• Principal Fellow (PF)

There are three routes to acquiring these categories that are appropriate to your teaching involvement:

• Taught
• Mentored
• Individual

Advance HE - Teaching Qualifications

The Institute for Academic Development (IAD) supports the professional and academic development of staff and students at the University of Edinburgh. 

It awards fellowships accredited by Advance HE through:

• Taught courses - The Introduction to Academic Practice (IntroAP) and Postgraduate Certificate Academic Practice (PgCAP)
• The mentored Edinburgh Teaching Award (EdTA)

Enrolling in either of these pathways will be included in workload allocations and is encouraged by the School.
