The 2025 EastBio Symposium took place on 3-4 June in Edinburgh. The 2025 EastBio Symposium took place at the University of Edinburgh, and this year’s theme was on impact in research. It was a great two days packed with talks and workshops, featuring speakers from both academia and industry. One of the highlights was catching up with other PhD students from across the programme. My favourite session was Professor Sinead Collins’ talk, where she spoke openly about her experiences navigating academia as a queer woman, and it was encouraging to see how far we’ve come in making science more inclusive. Overall, the symposium gave me a fresh perspective on how my research can make a real-world difference, and how important it is to connect with the public about what we do.
