Information on accessing and using the DRP-HCB Technology Cores. Who can access the DRP-HCB?The scientific remit of the DRP-HCB is very broad and the majority of projects registered with the DRP-HCB will meet the “hidden biology” remit for which Wellcome funding was awarded. For projects that fall outside this remit we have reserved up to 10% of capacity of the Technology Cores , a project must still be registered with the DRP-HCB in the usual way.All projects must first be registered with the DRP-HCB by completing the Project registration form.Expand allCollapse allHow are the DRP-HCB Technology Cores Accessed?Initial project registration is via an online Project Registration form. Users should consult the guidelines provided when completing the form. The grant holder (usually the Group Leader) is responsible for registering a project.Projects are reviewed by the DRP-HCB Senior Management team. The DRP-HCB Management Team meets monthly to review new projects.Researchers are given a unique ID for each project, which should be quoted along with the project title when accessing the Technology Cores.Core managers work with group leaders and researchers to cost the project and assess feasibility.Core managers, technologists and researchers deliver the project, including assisting with data organisation and access.Users should report annually on project progress. Why the need to complete a form to access the DRP-HCB?We are accountable to Wellcome who invested £9M in the DRP-HCB. There is an emphasis on monitoring and evaluation, so we need to know which projects the DRP-HCB facilitates to ensure we are meeting the scientific aims of the DRP-HCB. Understanding the goals of your projects will help us align the DRP-HCB to the needs of the researchers. Where to invest/seek additional funding, and connect you to appropriate technologies for your research question. We aim to build a community around the DRP-HCB. We plan tailored scientific workshops, recruitment of interns and other initiatives that might be targeted to particular scientific areas so understanding the projects will ensure we include the most appropriate people. What is the scope of a DRP-HCB project? For the purpose of the DRP-HCB each project should have a scientific goal. For example:A single aim of a multi-person grant (Wellcome, ERC etc.),one postdoc project grant or astand-alone PhD studentship would be examples of the scale of a project. Each project can have more than one researcher associated with it, but they should all be working towards the same scientific aim. It would not be appropriate to have a single project covering the entire group.Projects can be ongoing, newly funded or in advance of a funding application. How will Technology Cores prioritise Projects? The Technology Cores will normally have sufficient capacity to manage workflows without significant delay. It is possible that at certain times some capabilities will be overwhelmed and while we will try to increase provision where possible, on rare occasions projects may need to be prioritised. In this case we will consider several factors including fit to the DRP-HCB, feasibility of the project and fairness to other users, particularly those that have invested in acquisition or development of particular technologies. Can details of a registered project be changed? All registered projects should be updated annually. Changes to staff and students named on a DRP-HCB project can be updated at any time via the short online DRP-HCB Personnel update form.Personnel update formTerms and conditionsDRP-HCB Terms and conditions.1. All projects must be registered with the DRP-HCB. 2. The project registration form should be fully completed with the understanding that your text may be sent to our funders as part of our reporting procedure. 3. Only authorised users with a Project ID number can access to the cores. 4. Names of staff and students aligned with a particular project should be kept up to date. 5. The Platform and Cores must be acknowledged by name “Discovery Research Platform for Hidden Cell Biology” in any outputs enabled by the Platform (e.g. publications, data sets, patents etc.) including the Wellcome grant number: 0226791 6. In general, Core Managers and/or Core Technologists are expected to be authors on publications, with their contributions recognised in the same way as researchers within individual groups. This will be discussed on a case-by-case basis. 7. Some equipment and resources managed by the DRP-HCB were purchased from a variety of sources, including individual groups, and are under specific usage agreements. The appropriate funders must also be acknowledged. Core Managers can advise on these arrangements. 8. Scientific advances must be reported annually to comply with the requirements of regular reporting to funders. 9. All research outputs that have involved use of the DRP-HCB are subject to the Wellcome Open access policy. Outputs (data, software, materials and publications) should be in the public domain or provided under an appropriate open licence.Acknowledging the DRP-HCBThe technical and intellectual input of the DRP-HCB and technologists should be recognised by authorship on publications. A condition of using the DRP-HCB is that it is properly acknowledged on all publications and presentations.Publications1. The Wellcome grant number that must be acknowledged is 226791. 2. In the acknowledgements section add the following text: “This work was supported by funding for the Wellcome Discovery Research Platform for Hidden Cell Biology [226791] and we gratefully acknowledge support from the Microscopy*/Proteomics*/Bioinformatics*/Structural Biology*core{s).”*delete as appropriate3. You may also need to acknowledge additional grants for particular instrumentation, please consult with the Core Managers for this. Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology Staff should also acknowledge the WCB core grant.PresentationsPlease include both the Wellcome logo and the DRP-HCB logo .
