Opportunities to study with us Engineering biology (synthetic biology) is an exciting and fast growing are of research and the skills are in high demand by industry. If you are interested in getting further training, here is a short guide as to what the University of Edinburgh and its partners offer. Postgraduate Taught Course We offer several post graduate taught (Masters) courses. You can apply any time (follow the links below) but if you hope to apply for a scholarship then you are advised to do it before May or June. Courses start in September/October. Available courses: MSc Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology | The University of Edinburgh A qualification in this cutting-edge area of biology will be very appealing to industry employers or prepare you for PhD study. MSc Systems & Synthetic Biology | The University of Edinburgh Gain experience in one of the newest areas of biology, and discover how to apply engineering principles to the understanding and designing of biological networks. MSc Biotechnology | The University of Edinburgh Create new products and services, and evaluate current economic structures used in the fuel, food and pharmaceutical industries. Edinburgh is also involved in delivering the IBioIC - MSc in Industrial Biotechnology Postgraduate Research We get a lot of enquiries from students hoping to do a PhD in Edinburgh and we'd be delighted if you came to join us. Please note that the Centre does not have a dedicated funding for PhD students - you need to apply via the School. There is also a link to a guide to available funding, the deadlines for some of these are different so double check so you don't miss out. A warning - PhD places are advertised in November or December in the year before you would start so you need to start looking early. Some PhDs are funded and advertised later but these are increasingly unusual. If you are interested in PhDs with a slightly different disciplinary focus (e.g. engineering, chemistry or bioinformatics) please check the equivalent School websites. All PhDs places are also advertised on FindAPhD. Places to check for available PhD places. PhD projects | The University of Edinburgh - Biological Sciences school only. EASTBIO Doctoral Training Partnership - East of Scotland's leading biocience graduate training programme Industrial Biotech Innovation Centre Collaborative Training Partnership - IBioIC CTP is to provide students with the skills required to significantly contribute to the growth of the biotechnology industry by making students 'Industry Ready'. UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical Artificial Intelligence - A 4-year interdisciplinary training programme covering technical AI skills, biomedical foundations and social aspects of Biomedical AI. Good luck whatever route you choose and we hope to welcome you to our Centre in the future. This article was published on 2024-06-17
