Recipients of the UKIC Postdoctoral Research Fellowships announced

The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced this year’s recipients of the UK Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.

Nine engineering researchers grants have been awarded to advance national security. Focusing on areas of unclassified basic research, the fellowships support cutting edge work that can assist the intelligence community and also provide mentoring support to a new generation of engineers.

One of the new postdoctoral researchers is Dr Javier Alfaro with his project  'Detecting the use of synthetic biology in protein design'. Javier is developing new methods in protein design that leverage on current trends in artificial intelligence. He will then explore the potential to detect and circumvent detection of synthetic biology and artificial intelligence in protein design.

Javier will join the group of Dr Diego Oyarzun next October 2022.
