Welcome to the van Ooijen lab!

We are a multidisciplinary research team studying the mechanisms of circadian rhythms at the molecular and cellular levels, at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Edinburgh.

Circadian rhythms are critical to health, as indicated by the fact that circadian disruption leads to a higher incidence of metabolic diseases, depression, infectious diseases, and cancer. Ultimately, circadian rhythmicity is a cellular property: in the cell, almost nothing stays the same over the 24h daily cycle. We use minimal model cells to identify the cogs and gears of the eukaryotic circadian clock on the cellular and molecular levels.
