The Nucleus Building

Opened in 2022 to support our expanding student body, the Nucleus Building will be one of the buildings you use most frequently during your studies. Inside there are seven large lecture theatres, more than 400 student study places and a specialist teaching laboratory owned by the School of Chemistry. This means the Nucleus is always buzzing with life and is a great place to spend time in. 

The Nucleus Building has seven large and medium size lecture theatres named after types of trees. The main building you will spend time in as a biologist is the Oak lecture theatre, with a capacity of 400 students it is the largest on the King's Buildings Campus. Many of your lectures in the early years of your degree will take place here. 

The Hawthorn teaching studio will be the primary place workshops will take place in year 1 and year 2. It is a 132-person studio classroom with six-person group teaching desks. For all workshops there will be a main demonstrator and some postgraduate research students present to help out. 

There are bookable study spaces on the first, second and third floors of the Nucleus Building which are for the exclusive use of students.

There is also the Nucleus Café, Nucleus Shop and Wrap Bar which are a great places to refuel after classes or to aid in catching up with friends.
