The Nucleus

Opened in 2022 to support our expanding student body, the Nucleus will be one of the buildings you use most frequently during your studies. Inside there are seven large lecture theatres, more than 400 student study places and a specialist teaching laboratory owned by the School of Chemistry. This means the Nucleus is always buzzing with life and is a great place to spend time in. 

The Nucleus has seven large and medium size lecture theatres named after types of trees. The main building you will spend time in as a biologist is the Oak lecture theatre, with a capacity of 400 students it is the largest on King's Buildings Campus. Many classes in Year 1 and Year 2 will take place here

The Hawthorn teaching studio will be the primary place workshops will take place in year 1 and year 2. It is a 132-person studio classroom with six-person group teaching desks. For all workshops there will be a main demonstrator and some PhD or PostDoc students present to help out. 

There are bookable study spaces on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the Nucleus which are for the exclusive use of students.

There is also the Nucleus cafe and Wrap bar which is a great place to refuel after classes or catch up with friends.
