One of the largest buildings on campus, lots of students from different Schools have classes here. The James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) is named after James Clerk Maxwell, a Scottish mathematical physicist who studied his undergraduate degree at Edinburgh. This building is where lots of teaching takes place for students. There are three large lecture theatres near the main entrance and the building also has a number of learning spaces such as computer rooms and laboratories. There is also a cafe on the third floor. JCMB teaching laboratory The biology teaching laboratory within JCMB is mainly used to teach the molecular and cellular aspects of the biological sciences such as exploring how cells communicate, the process of active transport or DNA analysis and insertion into a plasmid. The materials you will need during lab practical sessions will be set up for you when you arrive. All equipment is also provided. You will work in pairs or small groups and will usually work with the same people each week.We provide white lab coats and lockers to store your belongings during lab sessions.
