Study Spaces and Cafes

You can study or socialise in lots of places around campus

Outside of teaching, there are lots of spaces around campus where you can study, work on assignments or spend time with friends 

King's Buildings House

Edinburgh University Students' Association's King's Buildings House has much to offer including:

  • The Mayfield common room
  • Tempo, which serves fresh coffee, sandwiches, salads and snacks
  • Mayfield
  • Badminton courts

You'll also find the Advice Place, a team of professionally trained caseworkers who can provide advice on a range of topics.

Murchison House

Some teaching does take place here- there is a lecture theatre, workshop rooms and tutorial rooms.  There are also lots of places for studying, including three large rooms full of open-access computers on the ground floor. There is a cafe and desks in the open plan ground floor. 

Also on the ground floor, you'll find a cafe and a Student information Point.

Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library

This building is named after Noreen and Kenneth Murray, who were pioneers in genetic engineering leading to the hepatitis B vaccine.

The Noreen and Kenneth Murray library houses the biology principle printed book collection. Biology textbooks are kept mostly on floor 1 and there are lots of copies of textbooks you might need to borrow. There are desks and computers for studying as well as printers and the cafe on the ground floor.
