Biological and Biomedical Sciences Studentships

The Darwin Trust awards four year PhD studentships for research in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences to individuals who are not UK nationals. Darwin Trust studentships may only be held at particular institutions in the UK or at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg. Most studentships in the UK are held in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, but students are also supported at the School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham (three per year), and the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge (one per year).

Each studentship provides an annual stipend and will pay the University tuition fee for up to four years. To be eligible for a studentship you must have received your first university degree (Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, or Master's degree) less than five years before the closing date for the applications round to which you are applying.

Further information about these studentships and instructions for how to apply can be found by clicking on the corresponding link below.

The Trust is no longer awarding PhD studentships in the History or Philosophy of Science or Medicine.
