Between the summer of first and second year I got to shadow a post doc researcher in one of the university labs studying Trypanosoma brucei.

Academic Life

"My favourite part of being a student in Biological Sciences is learning about things that have always interested me in much more detail and seeing how these things translate into real life during lab sessions."

"In a typical day, I have two or three lectures in the morning followed by lunch on campus. During the afternoons I either have a tutorial, a lab or time to study. I prefer staying at uni to study as I'm able to focus much better than at home. I like to keep my evenings free of academics and try to meet up with friends as much as possible during the week."

"Between the summer of first and second year I got to shadow a post doc researcher in one of the university labs studying Trypanosoma brucei. This gave me the opportunity to see what working in an academic lab is like and was shown commonly used lab techniques which I now recognise much more easily when presented during lectures. I was also able to assist with some basic lab procedures which was really fun."

Student Experience

"I've really enjoyed trying out a lot of different societies at the university. I am currently a part of the volleyball club, as well as one of the orchestras from the Edinburgh University Music Society. I also work part-time as a bartender and server at the student union which I really enjoy."

Top Tips

"My favorite place to study at Kings is in one of the study spaces on the lower ground floor in Murchison House. There is also a 'Heat and Eat' room with microwaves on this floor where I usually heat up my lunch when I have a long day. I also like going to the library when I really need to focus or finish important work without distractions."
