PhD, MSc by Research and MPhil programmes - information about research projects, funding sources and making an application We have over 30 PhD students working in different areas of plant and fungal biology, often in collaboration with other institutes in Edinburgh or elsewhere. Three higher degrees are available by research: PhD (three or four years) MPhil (two years) MSc by Research (one year) Expand all Collapse all Training, Networking and Placements Training of PhD students is underpinned by the Graduate School and by the PhD student and researcher society BioDocSoc. BioDocSoc The School of Biological Sciences is also a member of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership (EastBio), which provides further opportunities for training, networking and work placements. EastBio Doctoral Training Partnership Funding and Eligibility A number of fully-funded studentships are awarded each year. These include 4-year BBSRC and Industrial CASE studentships. The Institute also has access to studentships funding from a number of other sources, University of Edinburgh and charities.
