In addition to your initial compulsory demonstrator training, course specific support will come from the course organisers and floor leaders of your particular classes. This can be in a variety of formats: Demonstrator guides/notes The basic demonstrator preparation for any class (paid for 45mins) should include reading the relevant part of the course student guide plus any specific demonstrator notes that have been provided. Class specific notes for demonstrators provide background information and highlight specific issues related to that class or series of classes. These issues may include: Safety information on particular reagents and/or particular procedures that are required to maintain safety (for example demonstrators may be required to dispense certain toxic substances or monitor the use of full face masks when at work station A and B).Sometimes there are particular learning points that need to be highlighted.If you have not received or are not aware of any demonstrator notes for a particular class, please check with the course organiser in advance. In person meetings In addition to demonstrator notes there are often additional class specific in person meetings where the floor leader may: Talk through aspects of a sessionGive you the opportunity to engage, explore and ask questions about the equipment and materials that are to be used in that class.In person meetings are a common format for practicals where knowledge and use of equipment can be revised and samples can be viewed before the class. Payment - you will be paid at your standard rate for your time attending these meetings. Online meetings using MS Teams In addition or often instead of in person meetings, online meetings via Microsoft Teams channels are regularly used to: Provide information about classes.Allow demonstrators to ask questions and engage with the rest of the teaching team.Online meetings are a common format for workshops where knowledge and key learning concepts and outcomes can be discussed before the class.Preparation - to make the most of these sessions please read through your guide and demonstrator notes before attending. Payment - you will be paid at your standard rate for your time attending these meetings. Meetings for markers For marking, assessment specific guidance and training will be provided in the form of marking rubrics and discussion/training with the relevant teaching staff.
