Marking assessments and providing feedback to students can be an important role for you as a demonstrator Marking work and providing feedback in both formative and summative assessments is a vital part of the student learning experience. The BTO is regularly looking to recruit demonstrators into this role. What will I be marking? The type of assessments for marking can vary from lab reports and assessed problems to the year 1 and 2 reflective portfolio (a key part of year 1 and 2 undergraduate courses). How are markers selected? To maintain quality and to make the process easier for markers, the BTO, where appropriate, will preferentially select markers that have already been associated with teaching the material that is to be marked. For example, you might demonstrate on a series of practicals and then be involved in the marking of the report produced from those practicals. What is involved in marking and how is it paid? You will always be provided with a marking rubric and given guidance on marking. If this is not the case please ask for advice from the course organiser. Payment - As the task includes providing informative feedback and working to a deadline it can be more intellectually demanding than demonstrating in person and so is paid at a higher rate (UoE 6).
