Profile of former researcher in the lab, Dr Felipe Millacura, from his time as a PhD candidate.
Project outline
Project title: Modular Cell-free systems using an Adaptable DNA-Logic as core processing machinery.
Within my project, we are trying to develop new genetic circuits without mimicking normal cell behaviour. This will help to overcome issues currently present in Synthetic Biology and will allow us to develop new techniques for the development of biosensors and others.

About me
I obtained my MSc. and Engineering degrees working in Environmental Biotechnology. The work was carried out at the Federico Santa María Technical University (Valparaiso, Chile), my MSc. sponsored by the Scientific Technological Research Centre for Mining (CICITEM), Antofagasta, Chile.
Thereafter, I was employed at CICITEM executing the Fondecyt project. Fondecyt worked to analyse the response, adaptation, metabolic capabilities and heavy metal resistances from Cupriavidus metallidurans strains, collaborating with the Belgium Nuclear Research Centre (SCK-CEN), Mol, Belgium.
Last couple of years, I have specialised in Data Science and Data Analysis, broadening my areas of knowledge via applying Machine Learning algorithms, improving data architectures and generating data visualizations able to reach the general public.
In my free time, I like to spend time doing sports such as swimming, cycling and football. I also like to play chess, guitar, read books or make origami.
