Independent Fellows play a key role within the Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IEE), in the School of Biological Sciences (SBS) at the University of Edinburgh. About our Fellows Fellows are considered as PI level, eligible (and encouraged) to supervise research students, and fully involved in all aspects of decision making in the institute. Many of our current staff are on fellowships, and the record of our Fellows being retained to permanent positions at the end of their Fellowships is exceptional. SBS provides a world class intellectual environment, with state-of-the-art facilities where Fellows are supported to achieve their potential. We are able to support two candidates each year Supported candidates will be assigned an experienced mentor to help navigate the processes involved in making fellowship applications, Supported candidates can apply for any number of fellowships during their period of support. Those who succeed in securing an independent fellowship are automatically eligible for retention and benefit from a well-structured career development programme.
