New preprint (KKT22–25)

September 28, 2019

We posted a new preprint that identified four kinetochore proteins, KKT22–25, in Trypanosoma brucei. Obvious orthologs for these proteins are present only in kinetoplastids, just like other kinetochore proteins in T. brucei. In addition, KKT23 has a Gcn5-related N-acetyltransferases (GNAT) domain, which is not found in any known kinetochore protein in other eukaryotes, reinforcing the idea that kinetoplastid kinetochores are unconventional.
