The Immunology and Infection Summer School is an opportunity open to incoming 3rd-year undergraduate students (current 2nd-year students) from The University of Edinburgh's School of Biological Sciences (BTO) and Deanery of Biomedical Sciences (BMTO) who share a keen interest in immunology and infection. SummaryThe Immunology and Infection Summer School is an annual week-long program hosted by The University of Edinburgh's Institute of Immunology and Infection Research (IIIR), dedicated to immersing the next generation of scientists in cutting-edge infectious disease and immunology research. Our primary aim is to provide invaluable, practical laboratory experience and professional development to incoming 3rd year honours students who may have limited prior access to external training opportunities. Over five intensive days at the Ashworth Labs, participants engage in a comprehensive curriculum featuring hands-on laboratory sessions to develop core practical skills, expert-led workshops and post-doc delivered lectures detailing the latest work in their field. We also have dedicated sessions to build essential scientific writing and communication skills, as well as navigating summer research studentship applications. By connecting students with researchers and recent graduates, the summer school delivers insights on postgraduate pathways, studentships, and industry careers, ensuring participants are better prepared for their final years of study and future professional success.
